Chapter 2

Payday was close, and stupid idea’s flooded his head. He knew there were problems in his relationship, and they required real work! Having no issue with this aspect, he felt he had to do something grand to get to the point where that work could even be started.
He had a plan; he’d order the engagement ring he’d been looking at. In many ways this was a terrible idea:
- The love of his life had stated:
- She didn’t want to have anything romantic with him ever again
- She’d already started talking to someone new
- They were not in a position to wed quickly
- They had enough issues they wanted to work out
- He was already more in debt than anyone should let themselves become and neither of them wanted her to be responsible for it
Yet despite, these flaws, he believed that she still felt the same way about him, that they were meant to spend their lives together. She claims to still love him, she didn’t want to go to sleep without him by her side.
Part of why he hadn’t proposed before this was that he had. She’d said no. Yet when she’d said no, it was “Not right now”, and he’d been scared to ask again because what if it’d become just “No”. Yet, now seems like the time. Though, using bad times to ask for the most wonderful thing he could think of seemed wrong.
He wanted nothing more than for her to be his wife, but asking when things were bad seemed wrong, but not asking felt like giving up for good.
Asking and making vows when asking though not traditional felt so right, yet the pit of his stomach kept telling him that it wouldn’t help, and would wreck his already fragile mental state, and likely ruin any chance of any sort of relationship. Granted, having her in his life, but not being with her was a though that made him incredibly sad anyway, so maybe that didn’t matter?
I highly doubt our character came to a conclusion as to if he should make the Hail Mary or not. Hopefully, we’ll hear back from him in the near future with what he ended up doing.
